Reps. Sullivan, Boren, Brady, Larson Highlight NAT GAS Act

Washington, Mar 30 -

Today, Reps. John Sullivan (R-OK), Dan Boren (D-OK), John Larson (D-CT) and Kevin Brady (R-TX) issued the following statement in response the President Obama’s calls for more natural gas powered vehicles on American roads. Next week, the bipartisan group of members plan to introduce major legislation, the ‘New Alternative Transportation to Give Americans Solutions’ (NAT GAS) Act, offering a five year plan to make that a reality by jump starting the natural gas vehicle marketplace in the United States. Specifically the NAT GAS Act aims to boost the use of Natural Gas fuel in the transportation sector by offering limited tax credits to encourage the production and purchase of NGV’s.

“We appreciate the President’s commitment to increasing the number of natural gas vehicles on American roads, and agree that there is strong bipartisan support to get this done. In the coming days, our bipartisan coalition of members will be introducing major legislation, the NAT GAS Act, specifically designed to jumpstart the natural gas vehicle marketplace here in the United States. Natural gas is a cleaner, cheaper, more abundant alternative to foreign oil, and it is in both our economic and national security interest to use the vast reserves we have right here in our own backyard as the bridge fuel towards energy security. With gas prices approaching $4 to $5 per gallon, there is no time like the present to incorporate more natural gas vehicles into our transportation portfolio. We encourage the Administration and our colleagues in the House and Senate to join our effort by supporting the NAT GAS Act.”
