Backing up our Web-Sites important post

Yesterday Governor Paterson called for an Extraordinary Session of the Legislature on Monday November 29th, 2010 to resolve a number of issues. As a result there is a significant threat to our interest in seeing natural gas developed.

Anti-gas legislators and groups are applying tremendous pressure to have the Assembly and Governor enact a moratorium bill. Their plan is to ban gas development completely, and they will start that plan by delaying efforts until May. They will use that delay to have the dSGEIS discarded and started over. Rewriting the dSGEIS with their input would take 5 to 10 YEARS! But completing it is not in their plan. While it is being rewritten they plan to have all gas drilling OUTLAWED! Already they are recruiting college students and urban residents to form an army of anti-gas protestors! The moratorium that would be voted on next week is the first step in this plan and we must stop them right here, right now!!!

Anti-gas forces have taken the lead, so we must come out with a louder and stronger message to stop them. The stronger message is...

"Further delays and moratoriums are not in New York State's best environmental and economic interests. Producing gas can be done safely and responsibly under the NYS DEC's dSGEIS. Doing so will provide the jobs and revenues that the state desperately needs and will reduce CO2 emissions and other pollutants that are created by burning coal and oil. Furthermore developing and using natural gas will be conducive to implementing more wind and solar electric generating capacity in NYS. Please oppose enacting bill S.8129-B(Thompson)/A.11443-B(Sweeney)."

Here's how to send that strong message loud and clear...

First, please call each of the following elected officials at each number listed and tell them the message above. Please try to call on Friday November 26th (although the offices might be closed for the holiday) and on Monday November 29th (when the offices will definitely be open again - call first thing in the morning and keep trying throughout the day).

Third, because the phone calls are more noticeable to the officials, please keep calling to let them hear from you! Please don't give up until the extraordinary session ends.

Fourth, please make sure every supporter you know calls each number at least once!

Every single gas supporter needs to respond forcefully to prevent the bill from being voted on and signed into law. This is a decisive moment and it will take effort from everybody for us to win!

Thank you for your support and effort!
Sincerely,
Dan Fitzsimmons, President
